What’s new in FY2027

Changes to the ICD-10-CM code set effective October 1, 2026, from the CMS addenda: 190 new codes, 4 revised and 30 deleted. The count of billable codes goes from 74,719 (FY2026) to 74,879 (FY2027).

Codes on the exempt list do not get a present on admission indicator (leave the field blank). CMS and NCHS changed the list for FY2027: 62 codes added and 12 removed, and one title was corrected. 10 of the removed codes were deleted from the code set and have no page. See Appendix I of the Official Guidelines and the POA exempt tag on each code page.
