How My notes works
My notes is a private notepad on every billable code page. This page explains how to use it and what to do when something goes wrong.
WARNING: Your notes are stored only in this browser on this device. We never receive them and cannot recover them. Clearing your browsing data deletes them. Use Backup often. Never enter patient information (PHI).
Using My notes
- Open any billable code page, for example E11.9. My notes is in the sidebar. (On a phone, it appears below the page content.)
- Type your note. It saves by itself a moment after you stop typing, and the line under the box shows when it was saved.
- To change a note, edit the text. To delete a note, clear the box.
- Each code has one note, up to 2,000 characters. Your notes stay with the code from one fiscal year to the next. If a note was written under an earlier year, the line under the box says so, so you can check that it still applies.
Back up and restore
- Select Backup. Your browser downloads one file named
icd10ref-notes-followed by the date, which contains all of your notes. Save it somewhere safe, such as a folder you back up or your email. - To bring notes back, for example on a new browser or computer, open any billable code page, select Restore and choose that file.
- If a note exists both in the file and in this browser, the newer one is kept.
- Back up after you add notes you would hate to lose. A backup is the only way to get notes back.
Troubleshooting
I do not see the My notes box
- It appears only on billable code pages. Category, block and chapter pages, and Index pages, do not have it.
- A private or incognito window, or a browser set to block site data, cannot store notes. The box will say so. Use a normal window.
- Right after a site update, your browser may keep the old script for a few minutes. Wait a few minutes, or press Ctrl+F5 (Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac).
My notes disappeared
- Clearing browsing data, cookies or site data deletes notes. So can a browser or phone cleanup tool, and some browsers clear data on exit.
- Notes belong to one browser on one device. A note written in Chrome does not show in Edge, Safari or on your phone.
- Notes also belong to one website address. Use icd10ref.com every time. Another address, such as the test address, has its own separate notes.
- We cannot see or recover them. If you made a backup, restore it. If not, they are gone.
My notes do not match on my phone and my computer
Notes do not sync between devices. To move them, back up on one device, send the file to the other (email works), and restore it there.
Restore says the file is not an ICD10Ref notes backup
Choose the file that Backup created, with the name starting icd10ref-notes- and ending in .json. A file that was opened and edited, renamed to another type, or created by something else will not work.
Backup says there is nothing to back up
No notes are saved in this browser yet. Write a note on a code page first.
See all your notes in one place
The My notes page lists every code you have written a note for, with the first line of each note and the fiscal year it was written under. It reads only what is stored in this browser.
Please do not enter patient information
My notes is for your own reminders about codes. Never type names, dates of birth, record numbers or anything else that could identify a patient. Read the full terms for My notes.
Something still not working? Contact us and tell us your browser and device. Do not include your notes or any patient information.
